Even more teachers will be included in the merit pay system once it's implemented at Harrison School District 2 this fall.
District spokeswoman Jennifer Sprague has confirmed that all D-2 teachers except for a few exploratory classes such as German, French, auto shop, career and tech ed. will be included in the new merit pay program.
We had previously reported that art, music and physical education teachers would be exempted.
Harrison is the first district in the state to ever implement merit pay for teachers at all of its schools.
Under the new system, teacher will keep their salaries and in some cases even get raises in the fall.
The district is raising its base salary for new teachers from $32,000 to $35,000 next year.
All future raises will be determined by a combination of student test scores and teacher evaluations. In the past, a teacher's education level and tenure with the district were the main determining factors for raises.
