Along with the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade that's currently being established at Fort Carson, the Mountain Post is hosting the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade from Fort Riley in Kansas.
This will bring an extra 250 soldiers and 20 helicopters, approximately, for training. They're using the high-altitude and mountainous environment of the Rocky Mountains to prepare for similar conditions in Afghanistan. The training is scheduled to run from the beginning of April until May 29th.
News 5 canvassed the neighborhoods near Fort Carson as well as on the station's Facebook page for opinions on the noise levels. As of the writing of this story, no one told us they have had issues with the noise.
Fort Carson says they've been working on what they call "Flying Friendly" policies - like minimum standards of altitude over populated areas, and avoiding those areas when they can.
Mountain Post officials have telephone numbers to call if you have concerns or complaints; call the Community Relations office at (719)526-9849, 526-1256, or 526-1246.
