On Monday, 27 year old Neysha Hall-Gonzalez shakes her head and cries in an emotional response to an El Paso County judge reading her list of charges. The young mother stands accused of trying to kill her 3 year old son.
It all happened Saturday when investigators say she pulled over on I-25 near mile marker 119 and left her toddler son for dead. According to court documents obtained by News 5, Sheriff's Deputies found the mother wandering in a nightgown. When they asked her where her boy was she told them he had already died and refused to cooperate with investigators.
A short time later the small boy was found underneath 4 feet of tumble weeds. He was wrapped in a dress and a coat. Other than that he was only in a diaper. He had been out in the elements, alone, for around 4-5 hours. "He was surrounded by a lot of tumble weeds and brush, so he sustained some scrapes, abrasions and bruises." explained El Paso County Sheriff's Lt. Lari Sevene on Saturday.
The documents go on to say Hall-Gonzalez was going through a divorce. Just a day before the incident it appears she told a friend that she planned to kill herself and the 3 year old because no one would want him after she killed herself.
As she waited for her name to be called in court Monday, Hall-Gonzalez was visibly upset and wearing a suicide vest. During her brief appearance she was also scolded by the judge for asking for an interpreter and then speaking to him in plain English.
Hall-Gonzalez is currently being held on a $50,000 bond at the El Paso County jail for charges of attempted 1st degree murder and child abuse.
