SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - The mother of a boy who authorities say was thrown overboard by his father during a Southern California boat cruise says she's grateful to eyewitnesses who called 911.
In a statement released through her attorney Wednesday, Christin Briles says the witness reports "absolutely confirm" what her two boys told her happened on the boat. The mother was not on the boat Sunday when the incident occurred in Newport Harbor.
In 911 tapes released Tuesday, an angry woman told an Orange County sheriff's dispatcher that a man just threw his son in the water. Another 911 caller described the father, Sloane Briles, as "drunk and violent."
Sloane Briles has told several local television stations he and his son were just playing around and had talked about jumping in the water together.
