Mountain West football gets respect in USA Today Coaches Poll

The Mountain West has two football teams ranked in the Preseason USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll. Boise State is the MW's highest-ranked team at No. 7, while TCU enters the season at No. 15. Air Force is among the teams also receiving votes.  The Falcons come in at 35th overall.

This is the third straight year that multiple Mountain West teams have appeared in the preseason Coaches' poll. It is also the second consecutive year the MW has had a team ranked in the Top 10 in the poll.

The Broncos enter their first season in the Mountain West coming off a 12-1 campaign in 2010, en route to Top 10 rankings in the final USA Today Coaches' (7) and Associated Press (10) polls. Boise State has finished in the Top 10 of both polls the past two seasons. The Broncos' No. 7 ranking equals the MW's highest position in the Preseason USA Today Coaches' poll. TCU entered the 2010 season at No. 7.

The defending MW Champion Horned Frogs ended the 2010 season with a perfect 13-0 mark following a 21-19 victory over Big Ten Champion Wisconsin in the 2011 Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO. TCU finished last season ranked second in both the USA Today Coaches' and Associated Press polls, giving the Horned Frogs their third straight Top-10 finish, and fourth in the last six years.

Air Force also received votes in the poll and is listed at No. 35.

At least two Mountain West teams have been ranked in the USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll for 48 consecutive weeks, dating back to Sept. 2, 2008. The MW joins the Big 12, Big Ten and SEC as the only four conferences that have had at least two teams ranked for 48 consecutive weeks.
The 13th season of Mountain West football kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 1, as UNLV visits No. 10 Wisconsin. No. 15 TCU travels to Baylor on Friday, Sept. 2, while the Conference's other six teams open action on Saturday, Sept. 3, including Air Force which opens at home against South Dakota.
