EL PASO COUNTY - Our cameras spotted these deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Mounted Patrol as they rode along Fountain Creek this afternoon on the west side.
The mounted units make regular patrols in all parts of the county. However, Deputy Sean Ives said being on horseback makes it easier to navigate the terrain near the creek.
"We can cover a lot more territory on horseback, we can see a lot farther," Ives said. "The horses are also a good public relations tools, folks walk right up, they want to pet your horse. They don't often want to pet your police car."
The sheriff's office stables are kept east of town near Schriever Air Force Base.
