DENVER (AP) - Peter Mueller and Chris Stewart had shootout goals to help Colorado beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 on Wednesday night after the Avalanche squandered a two-goal lead.

Craig Anderson stopped Anze Kopitar in the shootout, then received a little help when Ryan Smyth's shot clanged off the goal post to end the game.

Matt Hendricks, Milan Hejduk and Paul Stastny scored first-period goals, leading Los Angeles to pull starting goalie Jonathan Quick in favor of Erik Ersberg.

Ersberg thwarted Hejduk's shot in the shootout, only to be beaten through the legs by Mueller and to the glove side by Stewart.

Kopitar, Drew Doughty and Alexander Frolov - with 1:21 left in regulation - provided the offense for the Kings, who had their two-game winning streak end. Jack Johnson scored in the shootout.
