The Old Colorado City History Center is dealing with a stinky problem. Someone is repeatedly using their front entrance as a bathroom, leaving a hot mess behind.
The incidents are happening overnight along 24th Street and we're told there's no suspect description, witnesses, or surveillance video.
"It's out here on the sidewalk and the ramp area," Sharon Swint with the Old Colorado History Center said. "It's every morning."
Swint says the problem is that homeless people sleeping at the park across the street don't have anywhere to use the restroom. Criminal activity at Bancroft Park forced
the parks and recreation department to lock the bathrooms.
Swint hoped that a newly installed portable restroom next to the park would solve the problem, but she says that didn't do anything.
"Our volunteers arrive each morning and have to scrape the mess up," Swint said. "It's horrible and a health hazard."
The museum sent News 5 photos of urine stains and feces left behind.
To catch the culprit or culprits, the museum is tearing down a wooden wall out front and installing a wrought-iron fence so there's less privacy. They are also investing in better lighting and surveillance cameras.
The Colorado Springs Police Department says this person could face defecation and trespassing charges if caught.
Colorado Springs residents are always encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling 444-7000.
