Naropa contemplating move outside of Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Naropa University is thinking about consolidating its campus outside the city of Boulder, a move that could take at least a decade.

The Daily Camera reported Thursday that officials at the Buddhist-inspired university say they're looking for a larger home, a decision based on a desire to start building a larger student body.

Currently, the 37-year-old university is spread out across Boulder in three separate locations. Officials say having three different campuses "really tears at the fabric" of the school.

City councilmen say they're trying to help Naropa relocate with the city limits, saying the university brings an important diversity that reflect city values.

Naropa officials say their financial health has improved since a university employee was suspected last year of embezzling about $450,000.
