The National Hurricane Center in South Florida is tracking Tropical Storm Humberto in the far Eastern Atlantic.
The storm formed as a tropical depression Sunday night, and tropical storm warnings were immediately posted for the Cape Verde Islands off the African Coast. The developing system was upgraded to tropical storm intensity Monday morning.
Tropical storm warnings continue for the Cape Verde Islands into Monday, and the rain squalls have been effecting the southern portion of the islands.
The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center intensifies Humberto into a hurricane by Wednesday. If that forecast verifies, this would be the first hurricane of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. The storm is expected to remain over the Atlantic and weaken rapidly as it moves into cooler waters northwest of the Cape Verde Islands. Other than the islands, no other land areas are currently forecast to be impacted.
