National Trails event happens Saturday with free admission

The American Hiking Society has declared this Saturday National Trails Day.

It's a time to get outside and celebrate the nation's trails.  1,500 events are planned across the country.  National Trails Day is sponsored by Nature Valley, Backpacker magazine, Columbia Sportswear, Fetzer®, Intermap, Merrell and The North Face, and supported by YMCA of the USA, REI and American Park Network. Federal Partners of NTD are the Bureau of Land Management, Federal Highway Administration, National Park Service, USDA Forest Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Enjoy hike, bike and paddle trips, trail maintenance projects, concerts, ribbon cutting ceremonies, health fairs, horseback rides, festivals and so much more!

Entrance fees to all national parks, refuges, and other federal lands are waived for the weekend of June 5-6.

Colorado events include a clean up at Palmer Park in Colorado Springs, a youth cycling event in Castle Rock and a trail clean up project near Aspen.
