NEW YORK (AP) - NBC hopes that the Playboy club, Chelsea Handler
and a raft of romantic comedies can help the network break its
The network said Sunday it has ordered a dozen new series for
next season in an attempt to fight back from its status as American
television's fourth-place broadcaster network. Each of the major
broadcasters reveal their plans to advertisers this week, and NBC
is first up with a presentation Monday.
"The Playboy Club," a 1960s-era drama set in Chicago's bunny
world, will spice up NBC's Monday lineup. Two new comedies will
also debut in the fall on Wednesday nights with Christina
Applegate, Will Arnett and Hank Azaria among the featured stars.
NBC has also ordered a midseason comedy based on E!
Entertainment network star Handler's life, and another comedy
featuring Whitney Cummings of "Chelsea Lately."
