COLORADO SPRINGS - The victim of an early morning shooting has died. It happened around 2:30 outside of a home in the 4500 block of W. Jet Wing Circle. The 21-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Joshua and Heather Pruett live across the street and tell News 5 there was a big party at the house last night.
"The party started getting bigger, more cars appearing, lots of people I hadn't seen or even recognized that were coming to this house," Joshua said.
He thinks as many as 60 people were at the house and says lots of alcohol was served.
"They were being extremely loud; yelling, cussing, screaming at each other," Joshua said. "A couple of people were pushed and shoved and there were at least three people throwing up in the street because they were so drunk."
That was around 1:40 a.m. and Pruetts decided then to call the police. They say some party-goers had lit fireworks earlier in the night. So, they didn't take notice when the shooting happened.
"That's really scary because there's lot of little kids in this area," Heather said.
The name of the victim is being kept private until his family is notified. Police officers have identified a person of interest in the case and are interviewing witnesses. No arrests have been made.
