LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The crack of the bat may sound a bit different in the Major League baseball season that's now under way.
You might not be able to see it from the stands, but hitters are carrying a new type of bat to the plate. For one thing, the "Louisville Slugger" bats are made with firmer wood. The harder bat is less likely to splinter.
And the other big change is the logo. The more modern "Louisville Slugger" label is part of the effort by the 129-year-old company to stay relevant in the sporting good supply market.
