FORT BELVOIR, Va. (AP) - Military leaders are breaking ground at Fort Belvoir on an $11 million center to provide treatment for traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress.

The facility will be a satellite center to an even larger treatment facility that opened in 2010 in Bethesda, Md., called the National Intrepid Center of Excellence. Groundbreaking is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

The facility is part of a growing health campus and community hospital on Fort Belvoir.

Military officials estimate that as many as 1,000 service members a year suffer head injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan from improvised bombs.
