New website offers added protection for elderly living in nursing homes

Do you know who is caring for your elderly loved one? A new study found that 92% of nursing homes have at least one employee with a criminal conviction.

Lisette Rivera feared for her mother in a nursing home and then wanted to make sure consumers and healthcare facilities had another way to check the backgrounds of those in charge of care. Just 6 months ago, her website, Safe Care Now went online.

"We're like the Carfax for the healthcare industry. We continually background check nurses aids against this public data such as certification data abuse listings and then we also check against nationwide criminal records."

Safecarenow.com runs the employees names and provides a report card. A red X indicates a problem and gives the reason.

The website is available for consumers, it costs 10 dollars a month to join and search the database.
