Homeless man slept in Sheriff's Office restroom

COLORADO SPRINGS - A homeless man was arrested last month for breaking into the El Paso County Sheriff's Office headquarters building in downtown Colorado Springs.

Daniel Mastovich, 32, was booked at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on January 29 on three counts of felony First Degree Criminal Trespass and one misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief.

On the night he was arrested, the Sheriff's Office discovered that Mastovich has managed to open the sliding glass doors at main entrance by triggering the door's inside motion detector. County Facilities has since changed the settings on the doors.

Mastovich was found in the lobby restroom and arrested by deputies on the night of January 28th. He was released on $200 bond and is due in court next on March 24.

This case comes at a time when deputies are also investigating a missing archived Internal Affairs file. It is not clear whether Mastovich accessed other parts of the building. All other doors in the lobby except for the restroom have electronic card key locks.

Mastovich had previously been arrested by the Colorado Springs Police Department on Christmas Eve for indecent exposure. He also has open warrants for two traffic cases in Montezuma County.
