Jaacob Vanwinkle has a lengthy criminal past that followed him from Indiana to Colorado.
In Indiana, he served multiple sentences for sexually assaulting children and theft.
News 5 confirmed through the Colorado Bureau of Criminal Investigation Vanwinkle registered as a sex offender after moving to Colorado where he's racked up additional charges.
In 2012, Canon City Police arrested and charged Vanwinkle with assault, false imprisonment, and reckless endangerment.
He pled guilty to the assault charge. The District Attorney dismissed the other two charges.
That same year, a protection order was issued in Fremont County.
He was arrested on that warrant by authorities in Thorton in Nov. 2013.
Authorities confirm the protection order does not involve victims in Sunday night's triple homicide.
News 5 Guardians learned he violated that protection order and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested in November 2013 in Thorton on the outstanding warrant charge.
Vanwinkle now faces three charges of murder along with kidnapping, sexual assault and sexual assault by a person in a position of trust in Canon City.
