No charges filed in deadly house fire in Cripple Creek

No charges will be filed in the deadly house fire that killed two and injured one in Cripple Creek last year.

Erica Girard, 19, and Joshua Carrol, 27, died September 10, 2010 when a home on the 200 Block of West Carr Avenue went up in flames. Keith Girard, 51, was also injured in that fire. He was treated in the hospital for burns to his hands and feet.

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's office reviewed evidence from the home and decided the fire was started accidentally, although experts cannot pinpoint exactly what happened.

According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Jeff Lindsey, "based on all the experts' conclusions and the statements provided by witnesses, it is difficult to ascertain the cause of the fire that killed Ms. Girard and Mr. Carroll."

The DA's office is also saying that fire was not caused by illicit drug activity, a rumor they say has been "circulated in the community."
