Colorado authorities are searching for a Chicago hiker who hasn't been heard from for a week.

The search for James Nelson resumed Monday at the Mount of the Holy Cross near Vail.

A Colorado National Guard helicopter dropped off a search team and another helicopter was looking for the 31-year-old from the air.

Nelson set out Oct. 3 for a five-day hike of the mountain, one of the best known of Colorado's peaks over 14,000 feet tall. Nelson's fiance reported him missing Friday evening and authorities launched a search on Saturday.

James is experienced hiker and is equipped with proper gear and supplies but authorities say he isn't carrying a cell phone. He's been involved with the Chicago Backpackers Meetup Group since 2006.
