Walsenburg's Police Chief is on his way out. James Chamberlain is resigning on March 14.
In a letter to the city Chamberlain said: "It has been a pleasure to work as a police office for The City of Walsenburg for the past 13 years and I am honored for the opportunity I was given to serve the community as your Chief of Police. Unfortunately, I feel that it is time for me to move on."
Chamberlain made national news back in the Summer of 2011, when he shot Lee Grace Doughtery in the leg. She and her brothers were fugitives who lead authorities on a nationwide manhunt.
Walsenburg's City Administrator says the town will conduct a statewide search for Chamberlain's replacement.
