United Services Automobile Association (USAA) announced Tuesday that they are hiring for 200 new positions at their Colorado Springs offices. The insurance and financial services company is expanding its banking, investment and retirement services.
USAA primarily serves members of the US armed forces and their families. Around a thousand people are currently employed at the Briargate campus with a majority of those employees working in the company's auto and home insurance units.
Jim Salek, vice president and general manger of USAA's Colorado Springs office says the quality of the workforce here and proximity to military instillations makes the region an ideal location for their business.
"We've always had a lot of success and great results out of this office," Salek said.
"We are committed to Colorado springs and I think the additional 200 jobs is a reflection of that."
The company has had a presence in Colorado Springs for over 20 years. Salek says their financial strength last year put them in a position to be able to grow despite the poor economy.
He points out that USAA did not accept nor request any federal bailout money and that 2009 was a banner year in terms of the number of members served and the number of products serviced.
"Our financial strength has never been stronger and our customer satisfaction feedback is also at its highest levels of all time," Salek said.
Hiring will begin in April and is expected to take place over the course of about nine months. Salary information varies because of the wide variety of jobs offered in this rollout (entry level to management.)
No job fairs have been announced. Instead, Salek is directing applicants to the company's website usaa.com/careers where the first available positions are already posted.
