DENVER (AP) - The president of the National Rifle Association is scheduled to travel to Colorado next week to meet with Gov. John Hickenlooper.
The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/WdS5yx ) NRA President David A. Keene requested the meeting. A spokesman with Hickenlooper's office confirmed the meeting will take place Feb. 7.
During Hickenlooper's State of the State address this month, the governor brought up the fatal Aurora theater shootings in July and suggested having universal background checks on all gun sales.
NRA officials have said those looking to curb gun violence should focus instead on boosting security at schools, enforcing existing gun laws and taking more steps to deny guns to those with mental illnesses.
