WASHINGTON (AP) - Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says "the marketplace is working and people are enrolling" for health insurance despite the problems with the federal website. Still, the numbers are far below what the Obama administration projected.
The administration says fewer than 27,000 people have enrolled through HealthCare.gov, while 79,000 have enrolled in the 14 states with their own websites. The total is a fraction of the millions who have received cancellation notices for their private coverage as a result of the federal law and barely one-fifth of what officials had projected.
The administration is hoping to enroll 7 million people by next year.
