On the eve of his big health care speech, President Barack Obama is meeting with the top Democrats in Congress.
The meeting today with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid comes as the president seeks to recapture his springtime momentum. Pelosi is convinced she's got the votes to deliver the sweeping overhaul favored by Obama. But Reid has a problem. There's not yet a piece of legislation that can win the 60 votes needed to avoid a Senate filibuster.
Liberals are still pushing for a full-throttle plan that includes the so-called "public option." But Republicans and some conservative Democrats want Obama to scale back to something less costly, omitting what foes call "government-run" health care. Aides say Obama will get specific tomorrow and declare it's time to move from debating to voting.
