Obama to receive prelim report on airline attack

President Barack Obama gets a preliminary report today on the failed Christmas airliner attack and will likely meet with his national security team.

Obama has demanded answers about why the U.S. intelligence community never pieced together information that could have prevented a Nigerian charged in the attack from getting on the Detroit-bound plane.

The report from White House homeland security and counterterrorism adviser John Brennan is also expected to contain recommendations on how to prevent a sequel.

Officials say it's unlikely Obama, who is vacationing in Hawaii, will speak publicly about the report.

Administration officials have said the system to protect the nation's skies from terrorists was deeply flawed and, even then, the government failed to follow its own directives.
