Fruits, Jams and Jellies... Carrots Squash and Tomatos... Honey and yes... Whoopie Pies... These are all things you can find and more at the Pikes Peak Farmers Market in Old Colorado City near Bancroft Park.
Beyond the typical things you may already know from your local produce counters you will find some things. Well, you may not know what it is, or even what to do with it.
At the market you're going to find people who know everything there is to know about everything they grow.
Chuck Hanagan of Hanagan Farms says, "People get in a rut when the walk through the farmer's market, "oh that looks so nice but what do I do with it how do I cook that thing... and like that so, We grew up cookin' this, we grew up eatin' this, this is what we survived on so...
I bring all Mom's recipes here, we have a recipe of the week always hanging on our awnings and we pretty much can probably tell you more ways to cook some of this produce than you wanna know."
Through the rest of the summer into late October the Pikes Peak Farmer's Market is a great place to get the family out to and not only enjoy great Colorado produce but the great Colorado Weather too.
As one of the vendors told us this morning, if you are not sure what it is you're getting, just ask, you will walk away with a wealth of knowledge and ideas for your dinner table!
