COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An Ohio school says a student died in the Pacific Ocean off Costa Rica and two others were pulled out to sea by an undertow current while on a school mission trip.
Patriot Preparatory Academy in Columbus says in a statement that the other two students have not been found. The school says the three were involved in a "tragic accident" Wednesday. They were among eight members of the junior and senior classes who were to return home from their service trip on Thursday. The news release says grief counselors are at the school assisting students.
The academy says: "We are a family and when one hurts we all hurt." The statement does not identify the students. Academy executive director David McIlrath did not immediately return a message seeking further comment.
