Kathy Rex knows the importance of exercising the body. As an athlete, she honed her handball skills to the point that she was Co-Captain of the 1988 US Olympic Handball Team. She finished 7th in the games.

As every athlete knows, sports are as much mental as they are physical.

Monday morning, Rex will encourage Colorado Springs students to exercise their mental muscles as Academy International Elementary School (AIES) holds Opening Ceremonies to kickoff the 2010 Reading Olympics.

The goal of the Olympics--to ready for 100,000 minutes, collectively, over the next two weeks.

Rex is a Graduate of the Air Force Academy. The Colorado Springs resident is Co-Founder of the Land Sharks Running Club and Director of the Futures Program, which allows teens to play handball in the Pikes Peak Region.
