Olympic "home version" available

Millions of Americans were glued to television sets last February, taking in the action from the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games. Now fans can bring a piece of that action home with Backyard Games, thanks to America's athletes and the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The Backyard Games concept provides Americans with the opportunity to celebrate the Olympic spirit at their Fourth of July barbecues this summer by offering Olympic giveaways, information and instructions on how to adapt Olympic and Paralympic sports for the backyard.

The first 500 fans who register at beginning today (6-22-2010) will receive a Backyard Games kit consisting of an apron, cones/megaphones, flying discs and bumper stickers all emblazoned with USOC branding to get the action started. The kit also includes instructions on how to experience Olympic and Paralympic sport in the backyard, recipes from the Olympic Training Center, kids' craft projects, Olympic trivia, and an Olympic highlight video. Additionally, for a $20 donation to, Olympic and Paralympic fans will receive a one-of-a-kind, limited edition Backyard Games t-shirt. Fans are also encouraged to keep an eye on as more kits become available in the near future.

A downloadable version of the Backyard Games is also available at It includes sport instructions, recipes, kids' craft projects, and Olympic trivia.

And for the second year in a row, longtime Olympic sponsor Visa has created even more incentive to make a donation to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams as Visa will match monies raised by the USOC during the America Supports Team USA campaign. Americans can now double their impact between now and July 31. For every dollar sent by the challenge deadline of July 31, 2010, Olympic sponsor Visa will designate another $1 from their sponsorship for a total of $2, up to a maximum of $500,000.
