One man shot to death in confrontation with Boulder Police

Boulder Police say one man is dead following a confrontation with officers early Sunday afternoon. According to police they were responding to a call of a man who was armed with both a knife and a machete and threatening his neighbors at an apartment building at 3009 Madison St.

Officers say when they arrived the man was not outside, so they forced their way into his apartment. The man was still armed, and officers say he jumped out at them and refused orders to get down, when an officer fired his rifle twice.  The suspect was taken to Boulder Community Hospital where he later died.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave with pay, which is standard, during the investigation.

No names have been released.
