D49's Transportation Department held an open house to help parents and kids understand the new fee-based bussing system that comes into effect this school year. The push for a fee-based service came at the foot of funding not being available for transportation, which the board voted on this past January.

Parents will have to safely get their kids to designated bus stops in their area.

Parents that we spoke with were most concerned about their kids' safety, not to mention the cost of the ride.
One parent said her child would have to walk at least a half mile to the stop. Another parent said that one of her daughters would have to cross a 55 mph street.

Falcon's Director of the Department of Transportation spokesperson said it is the parents' responsibility to get their child or children safely to the stop.

Additionally, the transportation department said about one hundred and fifty people came to today's information session and almost eighty signed up for the service, which costs one dollar per ride per child.
