Outrage after Fort Carson soldier allegedly avoids flag salute, posts online

EL PASO COUNTY, CO- A picture posted to Instagram by a Fort Carson soldier, concerning saluting the United States flag, is sparking outrage and going viral.

The picture, seen above, was posted to the social media site by Fort Carson Private First Class Tariqka Sheffey. Along with the picture was this post: "This is me laying back in my car so I don't have to salute the 1700 flag. KEEP ALL YOUR 'THATS SO DISRESPECTFUL/HOWRUDE/ETC.' COMMENTS TO YOURSELF cuz, right now, IDGAFFFF."

Fort Carson confirms to News 5 that Pfc. Sheffey is indeed one of their soldiers, and that the situation is being investigated.

They also tell us they are taking prudent measures to educate their soldiers regarding saluting the flag.

This isn't the first time this month a servicemember's photo on instagram caused controversy.  Just a week ago, a Wisconsin Army National Guardsman posted a photo of her funeral honor guard detail in front of an empty flag-draped casket with the caption "we put the FUN in funeral."
