ALAMOSA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Jan. 18, 2014) - CSU-Pueblo made positive strides in the first track event of the calendar year, earning two event wins at the Adams State Open in Alamosa.
Veronica Burney and Lacy Harris each won their events, emerging victorius in the high jump and pole vault, respectively. It was the first second win in as many trips to Alamosa this season for Burney, while it is the first event win of the year for Harris, who finished 10th in the nation last year in the outdoor pole vault.
But the big winner of the meet was actually Maya Rugg, who, despite not winning her event in the triple jump, finished second with a personal-best 38 feet even, which was good enough to qualify her provisionally for nationals.
With its successful performance in Alamosa to build on, CSU-Pueblo will head to Albuquerque next weekend, where it will compete in the New Mexico Cherry & Silver Invitational.
