COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado State University-Pueblo, the three-time defending Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season champions, were tabbed to finish first in the 2014 RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll, while seniors Chris Bonner (QB, San Diego, Calif.) and Darius Allen (DE, Pueblo, Colo) were named RMAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectfully.
The Pack recieved all nine available first-place votes in the coaches poll to total 81 points after a 9-0 RMAC record in 2013.
In addition to being named preseason players of the year, both Bonner and Allen were named Preseason All-RMAC to lead a group of 10 CSU-Pueblo student-athletes on the preseason teams.
Being touted as a Harlon Hill Award candidate after being named RMAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2013 and helping the Pack to the conference championship. Bonner is on the Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Preseason Division II All-American team. Last season he had 3413 yards with 33 touchdowns against just nine interceptions. The first-team All-RMAC selection had a QB efficiency rating of 161.1, completing 225 of 274 attempts for a 60.2 percentage.
Allen won the prestigious Gene Upshaw Award as the top lineman (offensive or defensive) in NCAA Division II. He was also named National Defensive Player of the Year by Don Hansen's Football Gazette, and First Team All-America after leading DII in sacks with 15.5, setting the new CSU-Pueblo single season record. He also had 26.5 tackles for loss, another school record and good for top 10 in the country. Is a preseason All-America pick for BSN, Sporting News and Lindy's.
