DENVER (AP) - A six-mile stretch of Interstate 25 will be closing in both directions during the night of the presidential debate at the University of Denver.

Details of the closure could change, but state transportation officials said Wednesday they expect to close I-25 from the Santa Fe Drive interchange to the Hampden Avenue interchange from roughly 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 3.

City and state officials say federal authorities had asked for the closure to ensure safety during the debate between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.
