Passengers on a Greyhound bus involved in a bomb scare have begun getting off the bus in downtown Portsmouth, N.H., with their hands in the air.

Police say someone aboard the bus carrying nearly 20 people called 911 and reported an explosive device on board Thursday. That led police to surround the vehicle and evacuate buildings and streets.

Authorities say the call came after the bus arrived in Portsmouth around 11:30 a.m. and was "based on someone's observations."

Police say 17 people were aboard for two hours until they started to get off amid police with their weapons drawn.

Police say the driver got off the bus after he parked it on the side of the road and is being questioned.
