The Colorado Department of Transportation seal pavement on a five-mile section of State Highway 12 between La Veta and Cucharas Pass on Wednesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 20.
Beginning at 7 a.m., and continuing until 4 p.m. each day, drivers should be prepared for 15 minute traffic stops as flaggers alternate northbound and southbound traffic through the work zone. The project begins just south of Cuchara and will proceed north to mile 11, about five miles south of La Veta.
The process is called chip sealing and will produce small, loose rocks. Sweepers also will be in operation during work hours and continuing, if necessary, after chip sealing is completed.
