PCSO Computer Detective Plays Vital Role in Investigation of Missing California Girl Found in Pueblo

Pueblo, Colorado - Through the combined investigation efforts of a Pueblo County Sheriff's Office ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force) detective, the Riverside County District Attorney's Office SAFE Task Force in California, and the FBI Field Offices in Los Angeles and Pueblo, a 13-year-old female victim was returned safely to her parents in California.

In April of 2012, a 13-year-old girl was reported missing from her home in California. When the FBI had examined the missing girl's computer, they discovered she had been in frequent contact with a Pueblo West resident, 19 year-old, Jim Major Jr. The cyber-relationship had been ongoing for approximately a year but the girl's parents believed they had put a stop to the relationship due to Mr Major's age (which they believed at the time to be 21- it was later discovered that Major was actually 18 at the time).

The friendship between the two began through the popular social media site, Facebook. The investigation revealed the female juvenile victim had taken money from her parent's bank account without their knowledge and managed to arrive at the Denver International Airport (DIA) where Major picked her up. The pair then drove to Pueblo, CO where Major then snuck the victim into the basement bedroom of his mother's home. While the victim and Major stayed in this bedroom, there was alleged sexual activity between the two. While the victim initially portrayed herself as a 16-year-old, investigators believe Major had ample evidence that the victim was only 13 year old prior to her arrival in Pueblo.

The day after the girl was reported missing, Pueblo law enforcement officials made contact with Major. He had the missing teen with him during this contact. Both Major and the girl cooperated with authorities during the investigation that followed. The victim was returned to her parents in California while a full investigation into the events both leading up to and including her time in Pueblo, were investigated.

Pueblo County Sheriff's Office Internet Crimes Detective Scott Grinstead was able to retrieve several texts, photos, and some fragmented video chat as evidence to support the January 09, 2013 arrest of 19-year-old Jim Major Jr.
