UPDATE: Fremont County Sheriff's office confirms to News 5 that the suspect, 19-year-old Tyler Matthew Schnapp of Penrose was arrested Wednesday afternoon for robbing the Wells Fargo Bank. According to the Sheriff, deputies saw the Schnapp's car on Highway 50 near Canon City. Schnapp was pulled over and taken into custody without incident.
Schools in the town of Penrose are on lockdown after a robbery at a nearby bank.
The Fremont County Sheriff's Office says that the Wells Fargo Bank in the 200 block of Broadway was robbed shortly before noon on Wednesday.
The sheriff's office says the suspect robbed the bank with a handgun. He is described as a white male, 6'0", thin-medium build, clean shaven, rectangular prescription glasses, dark colored ball cap, black tee shirt, black backpack with logo.
The suspect left in vehicle believed to be a maroon SUV, possibly a Nissan Pathfinder body style, possibly with a 8-12" white or silver horizontal stripe on the sides of the vehicle between the front and rear wheels, and a spare tire mounted on the rear of the vehicle.
Penrose Elementary and Penrose Middle School are on a precautionary lockdown while deputies search the area for any suspects.
Penrose is 30 miles south of Colorado Springs.
