Peterson re-opens north gate

Peterson Air Force Base has re-opened the north gate and has lifted the lockdown on buildings after finding suspicous packages there this morning.

One building, Building #2 however is still evacuated.

Officials at the base are continuing to assess the suspicious packages but there is no known danger to area buildings.

Test results from the packages were negative of any chemical, biological or radiological agents. The 21st Security Forces Military Working Dog section is also on scene to clear the area from potential danger.

"We have highly trained emergency responders prepared for this type of response," said Col. Chris Crawford, 21st Space Wing commander. "We take our installation security very seriously and will continue to take all appropriate measures in our response."

The NORAD and USNORTHCOM commands maintain a detailed continuity of operations plan, and all essential missions were maintained through the duration of this event.

Base officials have also opened the north gate to incoming and outgoing traffic.

This incident is still under investigation and further information will be provided as available. Base security still remains high, and all members are directed to follow the instructions provided by their unit control centers and on-scene response officials.
