Pioneers defeat Colorado College 5-3 in playoffs

DENVER (AP) - Denver scored twice in the first two periods on its way to a 5-3 win over Colorado College in a first-round playoff game in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Pioneers (20-11-5) can wrap up the best-of -three series with a win on Saturday.

Five different Denver players had goals. Larkin Jacobson, Quentin Shore and Shawn Ostrow answered Eamonn McDermott's early goal for the Tigers (14-18-5). The teams exchanged goals after that.

Scott Mayfield and Dan Doremus had two assists each for Denver.

Alexander Krushelnyski had a goal and two assists and Rylan Schwartz assisted on two goals for the Tigers.

Colorado College outshot Denver 42-39. Denver goalie Juho Olkinuora turned away 39 shots, including 15 in the third period. Colorado College's Joe Howe made 34 saves.
