Pizza delivery attack raises questions over late-night work hazards

Police are looking for a man who attacked and robbed a pizza delivery person last night in the 2900 block of East Fountain Blvd. The driver was walking back to his vehicle when he was knocked to the ground and robbed.

The attack is raising questions about the unknown dangers of late night delivery work; the problem is that delivery drivers never know who is at the other end of the order. Much like cab drivers, they don't know if the customer is armed, under the influence of drugs, or ready to attack.

Abdul Nasser runs Taste of Jerusalem in downtown Colorado Springs; though he has never felt uncomfortable on a delivery, he say you can never take too many precautions. "It's always good to be cautious and safe, you know? When you go out there you have to look out before you get out of your car, see who is around you, where you're going to. If it's a place where I don't feel comfortable to go into, I'll call the guy or whoever odered the food," he tells News 5.

Nasser says the financial gains that come with delivery outweigh the risks, but only if you're smart. Most calls come in during dark hours, so keeping your wits about you is key.
