Plan before you party with DUI iPhone app

Had too much to drink?  There's an app for that.  "R-U-Buzzed" was created by for the state transportation department specifically for the iPhone.

The free program calculates a person's blood alcohol content and warns when you're over the limit and can even call a cab. It launched earlier this month and has already been downloaded more than 35,000 times.

In addition to the iPhone app, C-DOT has has also rolled out the new website planaheadcolorado.com.  It's filled with information designed to prevent drinking and driving, including where to get free taxi cab vouchers or designated drivers, discounts on hotels, and even locations to legally park a car overnight and not risk having it towed.

The state patrol says they want people to celebrate the new year but to also be safe about it.

"There will be some people doing it the hard way and we'll be there to accommodate them," said trooper Cpl. Randy Novotny.

"We don't want to do it that way, there's plenty of other ways, other avenues that they can pursue to still drink and have a good time and get home safely."

The state patrol is warning that there will be plenty of extra cops on the street throughout the holiday weekend to catch drunk drivers.

Over 600 people were arrested for drunk driving in Colorado during the 10 days from December 1-11 this year.
