Planning commission to discuss Manitou pot shop tonight

Just as Larkspur shot down recreational pot sales on Tuesday, Manitou Springs is looking at the future of marijuana sales in their town.

Maggie's Farm medical marijuana owner Bill Conkling will go before Manitou's planning commission Wednesday night to try to get approval for a pot shop in the town. If he gets the OK, his application will then go to city council.

The proposed property, at 141 Manitou Ave, is right across the street from the Dillon Motel. Owner George James says he doesn't agree with the store, but how it will affect his business is still up in the air.

"We'll have to wait and see," he says. "I am concerned about that -- it may help business and it may not."

Other people voiced concern about the unwanted traffic that the store could bring in.

"I am against all these people coming from out of state," says Sharrie Nicholson. "We're getting flooded with people coming in and that's where you're going to get your drug trafficking."
