Poland's president and his wife's funeral held Sunday

A state funeral for Poland's president Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria was held in Krakow Sunday. The couples' bodies were flown from Warsaw to Krakow early Sunday morning.

A funeral mass was held at Saint Mary's Basilica in Krakow. President Kaczynski and his wife will be buried in the nearby Wawel cathedral.

The president's twin brother, Jaroslaw, and their only daughter Marta were present. Dignitaries, including Russian president Dmitry Medvedev, also attended the funeral.

President Barack Obama, French president Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were among the leaders deciding not to attend because of the cloud of volcanic ash hovering above much of northern and central Europe.

President Kaczynski, his wife and other high-ranking polish officials died when their plane crashed in thick fog about a mile from the airport in Smolensk, Russia last Saturday, on April 10th.
