Police: California gunman holds 2 hostages

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Police in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood say a gunman who shot and wounded an officer is holed up in a home with two hostages, and one may be a 14-year-old girl.

Lt. Oscar Mejia says reports of a family disturbance sent officers to the home around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses said a teenage girl had run from the house screaming and was dragged back inside.

Police say the gunman opened fire on arriving officers, and they fired back. Video aired on KABC-TV captured more than a dozen shots being fired.

An officer was shot in the chest, but his protective vest stopped the round and officials say he's in good condition. A female officer was treated for minor injuries after falling.

Officers have evacuated a block of homes and negotiators are talking to the gunman.
