Police investigate peculiar stabbing

Colorado Springs Police officers are investigating a unusual stabbing incident that happened just before noon at the Park Meadows Apartments on Mount Werner Circle, near the intersection of Lake Avenue and Southgate Road.

According to police department spokesperson Barbara Miller, a 911 call was made from the apartment at 11:48 a.m. to report a burglary in progress. The caller indicated that a black man who was believed to be 33 years old had approached the apartment with a gun in his hand. The caller said there were three adults and a three year old child in the home at the time.

A minute later, a neighbor had called to report that the man was now lying on the lawn near her apartment. He'd been stabbed and was taken to Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Miller says the people in the apartment told officers they did not know who the man was. It appears that there was a brief struggle between one or more of the adults and the suspect. He reportedly ran out of the apartment after being stabbed.
