A juvenile car theft suspect got more than he planned for last night in an encounter with "Officer Rudy." Rudy is a police dog.

A car was reported stolen after its owner left the keys in it near Galley and Academy. The car was spotted by police officers and the three inside ran on foot. The driver was found hiding in a field, according to the police report. K9 handler Mike Juhl released K9 partner Rudy when the suspect refused to obey verbal commands. Rudy took care of the situation. The 16-year-old was treated at Memorial Hospital, booked and released to his parents.

A second suspect was also arrested. The third got away.
