Police nabbed four suspects responsible for yet another 'crash and grab' burglary in Colorado Springs. Michael Vidal, Kodiak Gonzales and Brandon Jay -- all in their twenties-- were arrested along with a juvenile last night after police say they rammed a stolen vehicle into Acme Pawn on N. Academy Blvd., fleeing the scene with stolen merchandise from inside.
Officials say an alarm in the building alerted the police around 11:00 last night. Police arrived at Acme Pawn minutes after the men fled the scene, but were able to arrest them at an apartment complex just down the street.
Police tell News 5 this has been a trending crime in recent weeks; this type of burglary has happened to at least 5 businesses in the area. Burglars crash stolen vehicles into buildings to gain access to the inside, then escape with stolen goods. Police are reviewing surveillance video to determine if the suspects are linked to any of the other crimes.
"Some of your suspects are becoming more blatant in what theyre doing and more violent in what theyre doing, so officers need to be on alert and citizens always have to continue to help us. We need their input, their assistance," Barbara Miller, a spokesperson for CSPD told News 5. Police are urging the public to keep track of their vehicles, since these thieves are stealing cars and trucks to use as break-in tools, and report any suspicious activity.
